What Not to Miss When in Port Blair

Port Blair is the vibrant capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Surrounded by sea and tropical forests, Port Blair has a magnificent array of birds and mammals. The Cellular Jail

Also known as Kala Pani, the Cellular Jail is a pivotal landmark in Port Blair. It is where numerous Indian freedom fighters were imprisoned during the freedom struggle. Now a museum, one can find records of some of the most torturous incidents faced by the freedom fighters within this seven-winged national monument. Though only three wings remain now, the rendition of Victorian architecture visible here is quite spectacular.

Beaches

You will find the most quaint and clear beaches to soak up the sun at in Port Blair. Visit Corbyn’s Cove, which is lined with palm and coconut trees, to swim in the waters and bask in the sun. Chidiya Tapu, on the other hand, is known for housing a huge variety of regional birds. During the famous sunset here, you can hear birds chirping everywhere while you take in the mesmerising views of the Andaman coastline. For adventure seekers, Jolly Buoy is the ideal destination. Try scuba diving or snorkelling among the abundant corals here for a tantalising experience. Another tourist attraction a few miles from Port Blair is Ross Island. With ruins of a church, bungalows, dungeons and a graveyard, a walk through the island will give you a look into the bygone colonial era.  

Mount Harriet

Approximately 15 KM from Port Blair, Mount Harriet is the highest point of South Andaman. From here you will be able to get amazing panoramic views of Havelock Island and Ross Island. You could also trek through the jungle area towards Madhuban for an exhilarating experience.

Fisheries Museum

Showcasing around 350 endemic species of marine life which are exclusive to the Indo-Pacific region and the Bay of Bengal, the Fisheries Museum is a must visit. This offers a fascinating insight into the kind of aquatic life that you never knew existed.
