It is famous for its traditional ornate paintings called Tanjore paintings. The paintings are mostly of Gods & Goddesses. The paintings are notable for their adornment in the form of semi-precious stones, pearls, glass pieces & gold. There is an Art Gallery called State Lalita Academy in Ooty. It displays contemporary paintings, sculpture, graphics & drawings from Tamil Nadu & other States.
