Guide
In 1960, when the old Mumbai State was bifurcated into the present States of Maharashtra and Gujarat, Mumbai city fell to the share of Maharashtra. It was then decided to build and entirely new capital for Gujarat. Gandhinagar, Gujarat's new capital city, rises on the west bank of the Sabarmati River, about 32 km north east of Ahmedabad, the commercial and cultural heart of Gujarat. Gandhinagar is named after the 'Father of the Nation' Mahatma Gandhi and is the second planned city in India and presents a spacious, well-organized look of an architecturally integrated city.
Gandhinagar is well known for city-planning, entrepreneurial spirit of its people, lush green look, Government & political hub, major national & international educational institutes, defense offices (Airforce, BSF, CRPF, Indian Army, ICG). A tremendous growth is seen with its giant IT hub (Infocity) & upcoming mega-project GIFT city (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City).
